Active substance: Orlistat
The main effects and Xenical pharmacodynamics: Orlistat is an anti-obesity drug and is used for weight loss. It works by inhibiting the certain gastrointestinal enzymes thus preventing the degradation of lipids and their absorption. This causes a deficiency of energy in the body thus increasing the use of stored fat.
Proposed clinical use: The drug is prescribed in treatment of obesity in patients with body index exceeding 30. In some cases the drug maybe prescribed to patients with body index above 27.
Absolute and relative contraindications: The drug must not be used in cases of:
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparations or a known allergic reaction to drugs of the same class.
- Chronic malabsorption syndrome
- Cholestasis
- Young age
- Nephrolithiasis
The preparation should be used with caution after a consultation with your doctor in the following conditions:
- Hyperoxaluria
- Pregnancy
- Lactation period
