Voltaren Emulgel is a gel for rubbing into the skin and contains the active ingredient, called Diclofenac Sodium 1%. Diclofenac is one of a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics (NSAI).
Voltaren Emulgel is used to relieve pain and reduce swelling in a number of conditions affecting the joints and muscles.
Voltaren Emulgel works particularly well on inflammation of tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints due to trauma (e.g. sports injuries, sprains, strains and bruises), soft tissue rheumatism and localized rheumatic conditions, e.g. bursitis. For aches and pains, back, neck and shoulder pain.
Voltaren Emulgel is available in 50gram tubes.
The amount of
Voltaren Emulgel gel needed per application will vary depending upon the size of the painful or swollen area being treated. You can apply Voltaren Emulgel 2 or 3 time a day unless your doctor advises other wise. You may notice a slight cooling effect when you rub the gel into the skin.Voltaren Emulgel is suitable to be used by all age groups. Gently rub a small amount of Voltaren Emulgel into the skin around the swollen or painful area.
Voltaren Emulgel is for exterior application only and NOT to be taken orally. Do NOT apply Voltaren Emulgel to cuts or open wounds or any other area where the skin is abnormal. After applying the gel do NOT cover with bandages or sticking plaster. Do NOT get Voltaren Emulgel into your eyes. If this happens wash your eyes out with clean water and seek immediate medical advice. If your symptoms do NOT improve within 2 weeks or they get worse seek immediate medical advice. Wash your hands directly after application (unless this is the intended site to be treated).
Voltaren is a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAIDs) and are used to relieve some symptoms of arthritis, such as inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain. They can also be used to treat gout attacks; bursitis; tendonitis; sprains, strains, or other injuries; or menstrual cramps.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Also tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
Take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Stop taking this medicine and get medical help immediately if any of the following side effects occur: fainting; fast or irregular breathing; fast, irregular heartbeat or pulse; hive-like swellings on face, eyelids, mouth, lips, or tongue; puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes; shortness of breath, troubled breathing, wheezing, or tightness in chest; abdominal or stomach pain, cramping, or burning; bloody or black, tarry stools; chest pain; convulsions; fever with or without chills; nausea, heartburn, and/or indigestion; pinpoint red spots on skin; sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips or in mouth; spitting up blood; unexplained nosebleeds; unusual bleeding or bruising; or vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds.
Voltaren (diclofenac sodium enteric-coated tablets), is a benzene-acetic acid derivative. Voltaren is available as delayed-release (enteric-coated) tablets of 25 mg (yellow), 50 mg (light brown), and 75 mg (light pink) for oral administration. The chemical name is 2-[(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino] benzeneacetic acid, monosodium salt. The molecular weight is 318.14. Its molecular formula is C14H10Cl2NNaO2. The inactive ingredients in Voltaren include: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, iron oxide, lactose, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid copolymer, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, povidone, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide, sodium starch glycolate, talc, titanium dioxide, D&C Yellow No. 10 Aluminum Lake (25-mg tablet only), FD&C Blue No. 1 Aluminum Lake (50-mg tablet only).
