The main effects and Getropin pharmacodynamics:
Getropin is a preparation of pituitary human growth hormone. Growth Hormone - somatotropin is a powerful metabolic hormone that affects the metabolism of lipids, carbohydrates and proteins, has anabolic and growth stimulating effects.
Both in adults and children, somatropin maintains a normal structure of the body, stimulating muscle growth and promoting metabolism of fat. In adult patients with growth hormone deficiency somatropin reduces fat mass, increases muscle mass and strength, energy, and subjective well-being.
Somatropin and / or human growth hormone of pituitary origin have the following actions:
- anabolic (stimulates transport of amino acids in the cell and stimulates the synthesis of protein), prevents catabolism
- stimulates growth of the skeleton and bones
- increases the number and size of muscle cells
- increases the body weight
- causes retention of nitrogen, mineral salts (calcium, phosphorus, sodium) and fluids in the body
- promotes absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract
- stimulates lipolysis, causes a decrease in fat accumulation, reduces admission of triglycerides in fat depots
- increases the concentration of fatty acids in plasma
- raises blood sugar
Proposed clinical use:
In children:
- Deficiency of growth hormone
- Turner syndrome
- Renal failure in children in prepubertal period accompanied by growth retardation
In adults:
- deficiency of growth hormone with a known hypothalamic-pituitary pathology, proven by two provocative tests
- growth hormone deficiency with manifestation in childhood
- osteoporosis
- immunodeficiency syndrome accompanied by loss of body weight
Getropin may be also used to restore and increase the muscle mass and to reduce the fatty tissue.
Absolute and relative contraindications: The drug must not be used in cases of:
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparations or a known allergic reaction to drugs of the same class.
- Any sign of tumor growth, malignant neoplasms
- Closed epiphyseal growth zone of long bones
- Patients in critical condition, badly developed as a result of open-heart surgery or abdominal cavity surgery, multiple trauma and acute respiratory failure
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Kidney transplantation (in children with chronic renal failure treatment should be discontinued)
The preparation should be used with caution after a consultation with your doctor in the following conditions:
- diabetes mellitus and predisposition to diabetes
- thyroid gland disorders
- intracranial hypertension
Possible adverse reactions: As any drug Getropin may express specific side effects. If a side effect is stated below it will not necessarily appear during the use of the preparation. However if any of the given side effects do manifest please consult your doctor immediately. Getropin adverse effects include the following:
- headache
- impaired glucose tolerance
- increased intracranial pressure, accompanied by severe and frequent headaches, nausea, vomiting, visual impairment
- inhibition of thyroid function with the development of symptoms of hypothyroidism
- hyperglycemia
- leukemia
- epiphysiolysis of whirlbone
- edematous syndrome
- allergic reactions: rash, itching

- glucocotricoids
